PIA Press Release
Monday, November 08, 2010

There is an old proverb which says that every person in his lifetime should do three things: plant a tree, write a book, and raise a child

Plant a tree!

I remember the time I planted a seedling in Caba, La Union as part of the requirement for graduation to render Youth and Community Action (YCAP) service.

Part of my invocation during the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran awarding ceremonies held recently went this way, "We thank you Lord for people who plant trees that provide shade in the parks and bear beautiful flowers."

An active member of the Provincial Monitoring Committee in Clean and Green Program of the government, I had visited the province even to the farthest interior municipalities.

A copy of the TIMEK TI AMIANAN, a weekly newspaper of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, dated October 3, 1010 shows a picture of Mrs. Divina Quemi, General Manager of Nueva Segovia Consortium of Cooperatives who led in distributing 2,000 coconut seedlings at Fuerte, Caoayan, Ilocos Sur for planting, as part of their NSCC anniversary celebration.

At the same issue, another tree planting activity was done by the Parish Pastoral Council of Santiago, Ilocos Sur. The idle land was planted with mahogany. The PPC is hoping to see a green and clean area that will soothe the eyes of those who go to Church. (PIA Ilocos Sur)
