NUJP Butuan-Agusan del Norte chapter sets indignation rally tomorrow

By: Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY (22 November 2010) – Following the first year anniversary of Maguindanao massacre, the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) Butuan City and Agusan del Norte Chapter will hold an indignation rally and media hopping tomorrow, November 23 to commemorate the death of 57 innocent civilians in one of the considered bloodiest crimes in the country.

In a press statement, Dr. Bobby Henerale, NUJP Butuan-Agusan del Norte Chapter President emphasized the call of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

“The committee has called it the single deadliest event for journalists in history and it has moved various media watchdogs to tag the Philippines as the most dangerous place for journalists in the world, second only to Iraq,” Henerale said.

Also, Henerale said “who could forget the memory of the carnage of lifeless bodies who were not only repeatedly shot, but their bodies mutilated and desecrated and later dumped in an expediently dug grave together with their vehicles.”

Meanwhile, as NUJP Butuan and Agusan del Norte Chapter holds its commemoration of the first anniversary of the Maguindanao massacre, it calls on all freedom loving people to join hands in reflecting on and demanding for the immediate resolution of the case now being heard at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.

“Together, hand in hand, the arduous task of seeking justice for the victims will be made much less unbearable. Long live the Philippine press,” Henerale said. (PIA-Caraga)
