FVR visits MacauManila (November 25) - The Philippine Consulate General in Macau welcomed former President Fidel V. Ramos, who visited Macau to be updated on the latest development and best practices in governance on November 18-19.
The former President is the chairman of the Ramos Peace and Development Foundation, a non-profit organization which conducts forums on good governance with a focus on the continuous development of the Philippines.
Philippine Consul General Renato Villapando reported that the visit also included a trip to Dongguan in Guangzhou, together with a group of Filipino businessmen and civic leaders. During the visit, they also met with their counterparts in China.
During the visit to Macau, the former President met Secretary of Commerce Francis Tam Pak Yuen and was briefed on Macau's dramatic economic boom and its measures to ensure social responsibility in the wake of progress.
He also met with Filipino community leaders in Macau on two occasions -- at a dinner with at the "La Cucina Italiana", an Italian restaurant in Taipa partly owned and managed by Filipino business awardee and chef Ronald Bartolome, and at a meeting with the Filipino community at the Consulate General.
During these meetings, the former President addressed the concerns of the Filipinos in Macau on travel and legal assistance, received updates from Consulate officials on assistance to nationals activities, and gave advice on how Filipinos can succeed through teamwork and unity of purpose.
