Philhealth urges LGUs to improve rural health unitsby Thelma C. Bicarme
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 1(PIA) -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) region 2 has urged local government units to focus on improving their existing rural health units (RHUs) for more quality medical services for Philhealth members.
According to Karen Corral of Philhealth 2, the government’s effort of issuing Philhealth cards is useless if there are no health centers of hospitals that could attend to their medical needs.
“We are making rounds to all local government units in the region to advocate for the construction or improvement of RHUs for the members to have access to health facilities of the government,” Corral said.
On the other hand, Corral lauded Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya RHU which is now being utilized as model RHU in region 2 because of its complete state ofthe art facilities and quality services of its medical personnel.
“If Bambang can afford to provide quality medical services to its residents, I can’t see reasons why other LGUs can’t do it,” Corral pointed.
Aside from RHU-Bambang, Corral also praised Santiago City RHU for its modern facilities.(TCB/PIA 2)
