DepEd sets early registration day on January 29

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 2 (PIA) –- The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to conduct an Early Registration Day in public schools this coming January 29 for first-time Kindergarten, Grade 1, and First Year enrollees.

Dr. Ronilo Al Firmo, Tacloban City Division superintendent, said that this initiative hopes to achieve DepEd’s Millennium Development Goal (MDG) in education.

With the theme Makapag-aral ay Karapatan Mo, Magpalista Ngayong Enero, the early registration aims to ensure the enrollment of five- and six-year-olds in Kindergarten and Grade 1, respectively.

It will also guarantee the registration of soon-to-be elementary graduates in the high school of their choosing.

Furthermore, this nationwide activity will help DepEd, local government units (LGUs), parents, teachers, school administrators, and other education stakeholders to be better prepared for the upcoming opening of classes in June.

Lastly, this also serves as an education intervention to avoid or lessen students from discontinuing their schooling.

From January 10 to January 20, the first stage of this advocacy campaign called Child and Youth Find Activities is to be implemented.

School representatives with the help of barangay officials have already started conducting home visits to prospective enrollees. Street visits are also being done to profile of-age street children who should be enrolled in kindergarten, elementary, or high school this June.

School officials will designate at least three Registration Centers within the school grounds to facilitate early enrollment on January 29. (PIA 8)
