PIA Press Release Monday, January 02, 2012 Eastern Visayas records decrease in firecrackers-related injuriesTACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 2 (PIA) –- The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas expressed optimism that the region will register a decrease in the firecrackers-related injuries this holiday season. As of the morning of January 2, the DOH has recorded 12 firecrackers-related injuries plus one victim of stray bullet from the province of Samar. Nine of the 13 victims were treated at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, two were treated at the Schistosomiasis Hospital in Palo, Leyte while the remaining two were treated at the Salvacion Yniguez Memorial Hospital in Maasin, Southern Leyte. The youngest victim was four years old and the oldest was 37 years old. Nine of the victims were were males; four were females. The victims sustained eye injuries and blasting injuries; one victim from Sagkahan in Tacloban, had his right ring finger amputated because of blasting. All the patients were sent home after treatment except for a 16-year-old male from Samar who remains at the hospital because of stray bullet wound.(PIA8) |
