ILO-funded farm-to-market-road finished in 10 daysby Dan B. Codamon
ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao, Jan. 2(PIA)-- The concreting of a farm-to-market road and multi-purpose pavement here funded through the joint effort of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the local government unit (LGU) of this municipality was finished in just ten days of work.
The more than 300 meters long road located at Barangay Sta. Maria of this town was implemented last December 16, 2011 and inspected as completed on December 28 of the same year by representatives from the ILO, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) accompanied by the local officials led by Mayor Glenn Prudenciano.
The infrastructure will benefit more than 200 farmers mostly engaged in rice farming and corn production with the added benefit of using it as a solar dryer for their harvested crops.
DOLE representative David Bangoyan said that the ILO contributed P500,000 for the project to pay the labor cost while the LGU of Alfonso Lista provided the materials and equipments as its counterpart.
Bangoyan said that the money from ILO was intended for emergency employment to the families affected by typhoon Pedring but they found out that most of the activities were concentrated on road clearings so they proposed instead the concreting of the farm-to-market road to make it more tangible and significant for it will last for a longer period with more benefits to the people and farmers.
