‘Iwas Paputok Campaign’ in Biliran during the holiday season successful – PNP

by Flor Jackson

NAVAL, Biliran, Jan 2 (PIA) –- “The joint campaign of the Department of Health (DOH); Philippine National Police (PNP) in Biliran province; Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP); the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Biliran Provincial Information Center; the media and other concerned national government agencies on ‘Iwas Paputok’ in the entire province of Biliran was successful,” said police senior Superitendent Alfredo Sabornido, PNP-Biliran provincial director in an interview with PIA.

He said that during the holiday season, nobody was seriously hurt by firecracker blasting.

Dr. Salvacion Salas, DOH-Biliran province reported that there was only one firecracker victim, an 11-year old boy from Brgy. Hugpa, Biliran. The victim picked up a firecracker that exploded.

He likewise saod that based on the reports from each of the eight municipal police office in the province, no indiscriminate firing of guns happened during the holiday season.

He added that based on records of PNP-Biliran, nobody in the area was a victim of gunshot wound in the entire province.

He said the mandate from their head office to seal the muzzle of guns of all policemen nationwide including Biliran province since December 27, 2011 was lifted on Monday, January 2, 2012.

“Biliran province was generally peaceful during the observance of the holiday season, and I credit this to the all-out efforts of all the agencies concerned on the Iwas Paputok information campaign," he said.(FJ/PIA 8 Biliran)
