DSWD urges 4Ps beneficiaries to use cash for real needs

by Lyndon Plantilla

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija, Jan 3 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)3 appealed to all beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to use cash benefits for real but basic needs.

Based on their monitoring, DSWD Region III director Adelina Apostol said there are no reports about beneficiaries in Central Luzon using the funds alloted for conditional cash transfer for worthless purposes.

Apostol urged beneficiaries to keep on using their benefits for their children's needs like health and education.

An article published recently talked about certain findings of the Commission on Audit 2010 report, saying some beneficiaries, at least in Metro Manila, used the money to finance gambling and even illegal drug activities.

The DSWD director warned beneficiaries that they may be dropped from 4Ps should they be found not abiding by the conditions of the program.

Earlier, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman assured the public that DSWD and its partners had taken steps to strengthen the implementation of 4Ps.

These steps include the strengthening of the compliance verification system to ensure that beneficiaries follow the conditions of the program: school attendance, accessing medical and health services, and participation in family development sessions.

Apart from improving the system, DSWD gets help from more than 200 civil society organizations in watching over the implementation of program. (WLB/LDRP PIA-3)
