Fernandez LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Jan. 03 (PIA) -- International Chess Federation (FIDE) Master Haridas Pascua certainly ended the year with a bang after after winning in two recent chess tournaments in this province. Pascua, who hails from Mangatarem town, tallied a total of five (5) points to top the 32-field Libsong East Chess Tournament held December 29 and 30 at Barangay Libsong East here. Pascua earlier won the 3rd Ernesto ‘Jonas’ Castañeda Jr. Cup Chess tournament held in the same town two days before. Prince Mark Aquino posted the same score as Pascua’s, but lost for having a lower tie-break score. Pascua and Aquino received P3,250 each. Provincial champion Dick Gicain, Robert Bautista, with 5.5 points, completed the winners’ row. They were followed by Cherry Ann Mejia, Giovanni Mejia, Narquinden Reyes, Zaldy Falcon, and Casiano Torres, with four (4) points. The tournament was organized by the Pangasinan Chess Federation (PCF) and sponsored by the Barangay Libsong East this town. The PCF will organize another tournament in Bugallon town this January.
