Celebrating the International Year of Cooperatives the Phl way
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 3 (PIA) –- The Philippines is all set to commemorate the year 2012 as the International Year of Cooperatives, the Cooperatives Development Authority in Region 8 said.
In response to the call of the United Nations, the Philippine National Committee was formed through the initiative of the Cooperatives Development Authority, said CDA 8 regional director Anacleto Tumapon.
The said committee came up with a comprehensive program and strategies that put in clear terms how the 20,000 cooperatives in the Philippines with some seven million members will join hands in the celebration showcasing year-long activities to place cooperativism in the public imagination as instrument of social transformation.
Tumapon said that the theme crafted by the National Committee for the Philippines is “Transformative Cooperatives for People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace,” which underscores the brand of cooperatives that the Philippines will be showcasing in the International Year of Cooperatives and beyond.
The Philippine IYC plan has been crafted to serve as the Philippine’s blueprint in celebrating the event which kicked off in October 2011 and will end on October 2012.
All cooperative federations and unions are enjoined to anchor theirs and their member’s IYC celebration initiatives with the said plan to harmonize the Philippine activities and maximize our resources.
The document likewise highlights the thematic activities that will be done anchored on the 4P’s mentioned in the theme.

As part of the Philippine celebration, all co-operatives nationwide through their federations and unions are requested to take part in this celebration by hanging the IYC banners, streamers, & flags in their respective areas; by using the IYC logo in their letterheads during the entire IYC celebration; by using the Theme in their general assembly; by synchronizing their IYC celebration with the Philippine IYC plan; and by participating actively in local and national IYC celebration activities.
