Itogon adopts dragonfly as municipal symbolby Joseph B Zambrano
ITOGON, Benguet, Jan. 3 (PIA)-- This town known for its gold mines has adopted the dragonfly as its symbol.
The Sangguniang Bayan has approved Resolution No. 280 making the insect dragonfly as its municipal symbol in this year of the Dragon.
According Vice Mayor Noel Ngolob, the dragonfly, an attractive, beautiful and graceful creature is found in almost every part of the municipality. These dragonflies are plentiful all year round but they are seen mostly in summertime as well as during and after harvest time in the late months of the year.
Researches show that the eyes of the dragonfly are one of the most amazing and awe inspiring sights. Given almost 80% of the insect’s brain power is dedicated to its sight and the fact that it can see in all 360 degrees around, it symbolizes the uninhibited vision of the mind and the ability to see beyond the limitations of the human self.
Contrary to some myths , the dragonfly does not sting and harmless to human.
The dragonfly symbolizes courage, strength, happiness, unity and industry which are the traits that could describe the Itogon folks, Ngolob added.(JDP/JBZ-PIA CAR)
