Kalibo Ati-atihan 2012 to be more festive, colorfulby Venus G. Villanueva
KALIBO, Aklan, January 3 (PIA6) -- Kalibo Mayor William Lachica recently issued an appeal to business establishments and residents in the municipality to decorate their areas of business and dwellings with colorful motifs as a move to make this year’s Kalibo Sto. Niño Ati-atihan Festival celebration more festive and lively.
Kalibo is set to celebrate the world-renown festival from January 9-15, with a set of activities slated on the last three days of the celebration, culminating in a religious procession and awarding of prizes to Ati-atihan winners at the Kalibo Magsaysay Park.
Mayor Lachica said decorating establishments and residences with Ati-atihan motifs of themes would also show Kalibonhon’s hospitality and creativity.
According to the Public Affairs, Information and Community Development (PAICD) office headed by Ron Bautista, Information Officer, Mayor Lachica is urging the public to start putting up decorations from the first week of January up to the third week, the festivity’s culmination.
Through this move, the mayor believes that the participation of the private sector as well as the residents will contribute to a more colorful and happier celebration.
Meanwhile, this year’s celebration will be graced by national officials, according to Mayor Lachica.
Expected to arrive, according to him, are Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Loren Legarda, and Pia Cayetano.
Vice President Binay will be funding the rehabilitation of the Senior Citizens Building in Kalibo from his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) while Estrada would also be providing funds for the construction of an evacuation center for flood victims in Kalibo.
