PIA Press Release Tuesday, January 03, 2012 Caloocan receives aid for “youth half-way house” CALOOCAN, Jan 3 (PIA) –- This city government has received financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), which will be used to construct a halfway house for youths in conflict with the law. Caloocan Mayor Recom Echiverri formally received the aid worth P2.5 million in a memorandum of agreement (MoA) signing on December 29, 2011 between the local government and DSWD National Capital Region (NCR) director Ma. Alicia Bonoan. With the fund, the local government will build a shelter for “juvenile delinquents” and serve as temporary home for youngsters wandering the streets of Caloocan. The local government said this DSWD-financed building would function in partnership with the “Yakap Bata Holding Center” under the program, “Bahay Pag-Asa.” The Caloocan government is currently funding the operation of the “Yakap Bata Holding Center” that provides care for several law offenders, 15 years of age and below.
