PIA Press Release Tuesday, January 03, 2012 Tagaytay City ordinance prohibits children from back riding in motorcyclesTAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite, January 3 (PIA) -- An ordinance prohibiting children below seven years of age from back riding in motorcycles, motorized scooter or bicycles or any other form of two-wheeled vehicles was passed by the city council in the recent 65th regular session.City Ordinance No. 2011-023 approved by Mayor Abraham N. Tolentino aims to ensure the safety of children and avoid or prevent them from hazard, covers all the city and national roads. The ordinance states under Section 1 that it shall be unlawful for any person driving a motorcycle, motorized scooter, bicycle or any other form of a two-wheeled vehicle to carry a child or children below seven years of age. Violators will be penalized ranging from P200 for first offense, P500 for second offense and up to P1,000 including imprisonment of one month to six months at the discretion of the court for the 3rd offense. The city treasurer or his duly authorized representative is authorized to collect a compromise penalty of P300 in case the violator opts to pay the compromise penalty to avoid any prosecution before the court.
