Agricultural salt distribution to boost coconut production in the province - provincial agriculturistby Carlo P. Gonzaga
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, January 3 (PIA) ---For utilization in the production of coconut trees in the province, the office of the provincial agriculture is scheduled to distribute agricultural salt to coconut farmers this month.
Provincial Agriculturist Roberto Gajo said the project aims to boost coconut production in the province as well as increase income of coconut farmers to further improve the quality of their living condition.
About 2,500 coconut farmers are expected to benefit from the project continuously being implemented under the “Serbisyong Suarez” program of the provincial government.
Accordingly, Gajo called on coconut farmers to plant more coconut trees to help in increasing the yield of coconut indsutry throughout the province.
Meanwhile, the provincial agriculture office is also extending assistance to rural-based organizations that include the rural improvement club (RIC), 4-H club, and farmers’ organizations in their livelihood projects like vegetables production, handicrafts and hog production.
The Department of Agriculture (DA), on the other hand, is the main partner of the local government units (LGUs) in providing needed rural infrastructure including livelihood opportunities and direct market linkages to organized groups of farmers and fisherfolk.
