TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 3 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry in Eastern Visayas has announced that for this year, the department will intensity its campaign to help the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) make its products more competitive. SME producers can also count on the office to provide them the necessary technical assistance.
DTI-8 regional director Cynthia Nierras disclosed that DTI’s other flagship program, one town, one product (OTOP) will also be included in the intensified campaign.
It was learned from Nierras that local producers of OTOP can expect continued assistance from DTI as a sizeable amount has been allocated for the purpose under the current General Appropriation Act (GAA).
Nierras explained that Congress granted the additional funding under GAA because some members of Congress took note of the fact that products under the OTOP program was getting known.
The regional DTI honcho also disclosed appreciation for the presence of shopping malls in the region as said places serve as venues for the display of products for local producers. (PIA-8)
