PIA Press Release Wednesday, January 04, 2012 LGUs’ preparedness for calamities reiteratedby Merlito G. Edale, Jr. ILAGAN, Isabela, January 4 (PIA) -– Vice Governor Rodolfo “Rodito” Albano III has reiterated his call to all local government units to be prepared even before calamity hits the province to avert huge damages on lives and properties of Isabelinos. Albano said local government officials have great role to play in order to save their constituents from possible harm brought by calamities in their areas, especially after the effects of climate change have already been felt in the country. He cited the last calamity that hit the country in Northern Mindanao, where many lives were claimed and properties destroyed. Albano said local government units should introduce and implement measures before a calamity hits their respective places. “We should have learned lessons from past experiences to avoid future damages brought by calamities,” Albano added. He said the provincial leadership has already learned many lessons in handling the safety of Isabelinos especially those that are living at flood and landslide-prone areas in the province. The readiness of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) is also appreciated by Albano as it functions well even before a calamity hits the province. (TCB/MGE/PIA 2) |
