DTI- Cavite bares accomplishment on promotion of pangasius

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, Jan. 4 (PIA) -- The provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) revealed the success of the three month (October-December 2011) program for pangasius fish in the province.

The program started at the Small River Pangasius Farm in the town of Silang managed by Reynaldo Fajardo where the latter started hatchery operation last October and generated a total domestic sale of P112,500 with Ocean 3 of Laguna being the market.

On November 21, DTI-Cavite in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-Cavite conducted pangasius cooking contest dubbed as pangasius cookfest. The activity aimed to promote production and processing of pangasius in the province, increase awareness for pangasius and its value product, and showcase techniques and skills on how to enhance cooking of pangasius.

Various students in the province enrolled in technical schools which includes Sisters of Mary School-Girls town, National College of Science and Technology, Saint Emilene Academe, Tanza Trade Technical School, and STI-Dasmariñas participated in the said contest.

The pangasius cookfest was successful as the contestants were able to harness their skills in processing and cooking pangasius. Likewise, they appreciated the taste and the different menus they can make out of this miracle fish.

Lastly, the harvest festival of pangasius fish at the Villabos Farm in General Trias with the theme: “Pangasius Tangkilikin sa Ikauunlad ng Kabuhayan Natin.” The festival aimed to complete the “package of technology” the DTI-Cavite started since introduction of pangasius in the province.

Said package started last May 2010 with the dispersal of 20,500 fingerlings to nine fish farmers/operators identified by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA). (Ruel
