Quezon to put-up another mari-culture zone in Perezby Lito M. Giron
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Jan. 4 (PIA) -- The provincial government of Quezon wants to be known as producer and source of quality fishes in the region by installing another mari-culture zone in the town of Perez.
Roberto Gajo, provincial agriculturist said Quezon Governor David Suarez is eyeing the development of fishing industry in the province that could help to augment the daily earnings of small fishermen in the area and to preserve the fish sanctuary in the locality.
Perez town was chosen for the establishment of additional mari-culture in the province because of the rich marine resources in the area, Gaj said.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) will check and monitor the fish cages to be put-up in the area in able to protect the sea water and its natural condition, Gajo added.
Quezon 3rd district Representative Suarez is supporting the mari-culture project in the province by setting up the biggest fish hatchery in Unisan town, where many fishermen in the province will benefit from the hatchery.
The project is in support to President Aquino’s Philippine Development Plan (PDP) which among others aspires for a competitive and sustainable fishing industry in the country.
The first mari-culture zone in the province is found at Padre Burgos. (JMG, PIA-Quezon)
