by Lilibeth A. French

ILOILO CITY, January 4 (PIA) -- The Department of Education 6 is encouraging students, parents and teachers from public and private schools to join the fun run that will be conducted simultaneously in eight locations nationwide, on January 22 to support the government’s Education for All (EFA) program.

In Western Visayas, the fun run dubbed “Kahit Isang Araw Lang: Unity Run” will be held at the Panaad Sports Stadium in Bacolod City. Other locations are Metro Manila, Puerto Princesa, Cebu City, Tacloban City, Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City and Butuan City.

“The fun run is in support of the advocacy of government on Education for All as a tool in poverty reduction,” said Dr. Eden Deriada, chief of the DepEd 6 Resource Mobilization Special Program.

Deriada said the activity, through the fund generated, intends to provide computer and air conditioning units for public schools in the country through the School-Adopt-Program.

The running activity consists of two parts – the ceremonial run and the race competition. It is open to all running enthusiasts aged 12 to 60 years old.

There are three categories in the race competition – 3 kilometer, 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer. Top winner in the 3K will go home with P5,000; 5K – P7,000; and 10K –P10,000.

Finishers in the two events will be entitled to a raffle ticket for a chance to win an electric bike (1st prize), 2 laptops for 2 winners (2nd prize) and 3 cell phones for three winners (3rd prize).

Deriada said awards will be given also to groups or schools with the biggest participation.

Registration fee is P50 for public schools and P150 for private schools and DepEd personnel for the race competition.
