Tagalog news: Palawan aquaculture program pagbubutihin pa sa 2012

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Enero 4 (PIA) -- Pagbubutihin pa sa 2012 ng fishery division ng pamahalaang panlalawigan ang programa sa aquaculture, partikular sa seaweeds production upang makalikha pa ng mas malaking kita para sa mga seaweed farmers.

Sinabi ito ni Dr. Romeo Cabungcal, provincial fishery officer sa isang panayam kung saan sinabi din niya na pinagtutuunan ng pansin ng kanilang tanggapan ang pang-matagalang sustainability pati na rin ang kasaganaan ng mga nagsasagawa ng proyekto.

Sinabi ni Cabungcal na magtatatag sila ng seaweeds nursery sa iba pang bahagi ng lalawigan upang maging source ng de-kalidad na propagules na kanilang ipagkakaloob sa mga magtatanim nito. Ito ay karagdagan sa seaweeds nurseries na nasa Quezon, San Vicente, Dumaran, Magsaysay, at Coron.

Sinabi niya na magsasagawa din ang kanilang tanggapan ng mga pagsasanay upang dagdag kaalaman at kasanayan tungkol sa aquaculture sa mga stakeholders sa piling lugar sa lalawigan.

Upang mapangalagaan ang karagatan, magtatatag pa ng karagdagang marine protected areas (MPAs) sa Palawan at ipagpapatuloy ang pagsuporta sa MPAs sa Narra, Roxas, Coron, at Culion.

Pinagmamalaking aquaculture program ng Palawan ang seaweeds at kilala ito bilang top seaweeds producing province sa bansa. Umani ito ng may 86,000 metriko tonelada noong second quarter ng 2011 mula sa taniman ng mga 10,000 seaweed farmers. (LBR/VSM/PIA-Palawan)
