Media, regional directors plant ‘Lubeg’ tree for Lallo’s nutrition programby Oliver Baccay
LALLO, Cagayan, Dec. 4 (PIA) -- Some media practitioners and regional directors recently planted “Lubeg” tree at the town’s park and in a tree planting site of the municipality, in support to the nutrition and environmental protection program.
Spearheaded by regional nutrition council chair and BFAR regional director Jovita Ayson, together with national nutrition council program coordinator Rhodora Maestre, the media, who are members of the ‘Balay ni Ifan’ nutrition program advocates, planted the said tree.
‘Lubeg’ is a fruit tree which is abundant in the municipality. The Lubeg fruit is used in making wine, candies, jam and other products which is now one of the booming livelihoods of the organized women’s group in the area.
First district board member Maria Olivia Pascual, former mayor of the town, said the program seeks to address the problem on climate change, health and nutrition, and to boost the One Town One Product (OTOP) program.
She said the tree was already adopted as their official municipal tree and its by-products were already registered as their official OTOP products.
Maestre also lauded the nutrition programs of the municipality. She said Lallo was a Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) awardee in last year’s nutrition honor award nationwide. (OTB/PIA-2)
