MOA signed for P20-M Agri-Pinoy Food Terminalsby Robert Domoguen
BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 4 (PIA) --Department of Agriculture (DA) –Regional Field Unit-Cordillera Executive Director Marilyn V. Sta. Catalina and representatives of organized barangay, municipal and provincial Agri-Pinoy Food Terminal operators recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the establishment of new food terminals and strengthening of existing ones in the region.
The total cost of the program is P 20 million. Of this total, some P 5.3 million will be used for the establishment of municipal food terminals in Tublay, Benguet; Aguinaldo, Ifugao; Tabuk and Tinglayan, Kalinga; and Bauko, Mountain Province.
Another P5.8 million was allocated for the establishment of 29 new barangay food terminals within the region's six provinces. Some P7 million will be used for the strengthening of 60 existing municipal and barangay food terminals, reported the DA-RFU-CAR Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD).
Present during the MOA signing are provincial LGU food terminal coordinators; municipal mayors and their agriculturist; and representatives of non-LGU food terminal organizations/operators.
Assistance provided by the DA to LGU and non-LGU food terminals at the municipal level ranges from P500,000 to P1,500,000. The agency provided P200,000 for each barangay food terminal and P150,000 for the strengthening of each existing food terminal.
There are now a total of 164 food terminals operating in the Cordillera. Benguet Province, with a total of 39 municipal and barangay food terminals have already federated their operations, according to Marlyn Cosalan, DA Provincial Agri-Pinoy Food Terminal Coordinator. (PIA CAR/RLD-DA CAR)
