BMPC urged to acquire additional cargo vesselsby Necitas G. Alconis
BASCO, Batanes, January 5 (PIA) -- Contractors of various government infrastructure projects here has urged the management of Batanes Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BMPC) to acquire additional cargo vessels to meet the increasing needs of their customers, especially the contractors who depend on them for the transport of construction materials to Basco.
Quirino Gabotero Jr., owner of E.M. Cuerpo Inc. has urged to BMPC chair Charles Ibañes to get additional cargo vessels to solve the delayed transport of construction materials from the mainland. This delayed transport of materials, in turn, delays construction operations in the island province.
Gabotero said weather in Luzon is always changing so if there are adequate cargo vessels to sail, then more volume of aggregates would be delivered to Basco when the weather is good.
At present, there are two cooperatives that maintain shipping services -- the BMPC with two vessels and Transcend with one vessel. WAKAY Coop vessel stopped operations last September after it suffered a major destruction. (TCB/NGA/PIA Batanes)
