Business owners urged to register on time to avoid penalty

by Larry Lopez

TABUK, Kalinga, Jan. 5 (PIA) -- To avoid unnecessary penalties, business establishment owners in the province are urged to register their business on time to avoid additional expenses on penalties.

Revenue District 11 Officer-In-Charge Dominga Banggao called on business operators to refrain from the practice of taking the last minute to avoid the jam in the line of applicants, which cause delays in processing.

Banggao also pointed out the attempts of other operators, especially those in remote barangays, who simply decline from paying their obligations.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) charges annual business registration fee of P500, due until January 31 or face additional fees.

Late registrations are charged additional fees of 25 percent surcharge, 20 percent interest and compromise penalty computed based on the business bracket.

Banggao said she could not find any reason why many businessmen still do not comply with this basic obligation when charges are minimal, except when there are violations like late registration.

She explained their bureau means business to run after unregistered business establishments in the district and warned of sanctions.

“We should understand that taxes and fees are the back bone of government revenues and for us to demand quality services from government, we should first give our share by paying what is due to the government,” Banggao stressed.

She reminded the business sector of President Benigno S. Aquino III’s order of achieving tax collection targets for the government so that good services and governance would roll for the people.

The district office aims for higher collection targets this year with their agents armed with the recent tax map of the province, Banggao said.

From the record of revenue district office 11, total collection from business registration fees from January-November 2011 amounted to P2.123 million.(JDP/LL-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
