BATELEC 2 avails of NGCP’s free lineman’s training for distribution utilitiesBATANGAS CITY, January 5 (PIA) -- Sharing the aspirations of distribution utilities (DUs) to bring reliable service to power customers, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) continues to offer its comprehensive lineman’s training modules to private DUs and electric cooperatives nationwide.
Batangas Electric Cooperative 2 (BATELEC 2) availed of NGCP’s free course on December 19-20, 2011. As in past courses, lecturers and resource persons are from NGCP’s regional and district operation and maintenance groups. Hands-on trainings and demonstration on line maintenance activities are also part of the two-day course.
NGCP is the country’s only power transmission service provider and system operator. It operates and maintains high-voltage transmission lines, substations, and other facilities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. BATELEC 2, which distributes electricity in the province of Batangas, is one of NGCP’s grid customers.
Although the lineman’s training program is designed for electric cooperatives who acquired 69-kiloVolt lines or sub-transmission lines, it may be made available even to those distribution utilities not acquiring sub-transmission facilities. NGCP can customize its training modules to accommodate those utilities who would want to upgrade its personnel’s capabilities. The transmission company conducts the training for free and provides the training modules and services of expert resource persons.
NGCP President and CEO Henry T. Sy, Jr. welcomed the growing interest of DUs and electric cooperatives in the training which he cited as a “good opportunity for technical information exchange and cooperation.”
“Working together with electric cooperatives to upgrade line maintenance skills will result to faster restoration time, shorter power interruptions and overall improvement in power reliability and security,” Sy said. (NGCP/DVL, PIA-4A)
