PIA Press Release Friday, January 06, 2012 BFP organizes barangay fire brigadeby Oliver BaccayTUGUEGARAO CITY, Jan. 6 (PIA) -– The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) region 2 is now roving around the region to facilitate the organization of barangay fire brigades as emergency responders during fire incidents. Senior fire inspector Roygibiv L. Rugayan said the organization of fire brigade in the barangay is believed to be the most effective way in responding immediately to fire incidents in the local level because the members are just adjacent to each other and they know the situation in their area. He said the fire brigade is capacitated with enough training to serve as first aiders and as emergency response team. The members are also given proper training on how to report immediately fire incidents to the proper authorities. “There are fire cases that can be neutralized by the barangay folks and need not be reported to the fire department but we need to teach them on how to do these to lessen more damages, especially in the far areas or the most populated zones,” Rugayan said. As of now, there are still some barangays that need to be trained on fire safety while others are already activated and well trained. On the other hand, the fire officer also urged local government officials to help capacitate the fire brigades and support them in their needs, especially their equipment and facilities that are necessary in responding to fire incidents.
