Silay City awaits arrival of first international flight

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Jan. 6 (PIA) -- The runway of the Bacolod-Silay Airport will be receiving the historic touch down of Zest Air at around 11:30 a.m. tomorrow for its first ever international flight since its inauguration in 2088.

The Silay City officials are preparing the city in fiesta mood with the “Fiesta Silaynon” to receive some 180 Korean guests, a report from Gerle Sulmaca of the City Tourism Office said.

Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano said that Silaynons join the Province of Negros Occidental in welcoming Koreans who could be golf enthusiasts, investors, tourism frontliners, or travel officials.

“Their coming over to our province will give a chance to our LGU officials to showcase the different tourist attractions of Negros Occidental, our culture, festivals and food”, Montelibano added.

‘Fiesta Silaynon’ welcome reception will be held in front of Silay City Hall with Montelibano, Vice Mayor Mark Golez, Marissa Montelibano, Maida Jison, Lyn Gamboa and the teachers and students of Dona Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School in their Filipiniana attire.

Fiesta music will be provided by the drum and bugle corps of Silay South Elementary School together with their majorettes and flag girls.

Maida Jison, director of Balay Negrense Museum, said that Silaynon’s ‘basket of love’ containing tourism brochure, Silay piaya, butongbutong, and lubidlubid, some of the native delicacies the city is known for will be offered to the visitors as a sign of hospitality and camaraderie.

Messages will be delivered by Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr., Montelibano, Golez and other city officials who will take time to talk about business, tourism, trade, commerce and industry of the city and the province.

A welcome dinner will also be hosted by the Province of Negros Occidental at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall for the Korean travel officials on January 7.

Montelibano is also inviting this group to have ‘Barrio Fiesta’ dinner at the patio of Balay Negrense on January 10 wherein Silay food and delicacies will be served with Kabataang Silay Rondalla provides the entertainment for the night.*(JCM/EAD-PIA6/Silay Negros Occidental)
