No room rate hike for Alaminos Hundred Islands accommodation

by Venus H. Sarmiento

ALAMINOS CITY, Jan. 06 (PIA) -- Even with the expected influx of tourists at the famous Hundred Islands at the start of the year, the City Tourism office here assured there is no room rate hike for its resort-hotels.

Miguel Sison, city tourism office said room rates along the Lucap area where the tourist spot is located, are controlled by ceiling prices and no resort-hotel can charge fees or rates at a much higher price than what is prescribed.

Sison said the rates are reasonable and there is an abundance of ‘transient or budget homes’ which are good substitutes for hotels.

“The rates vary depending on the facility of the resort or the transient home,” Sison said.

At least 30 resort hotels abound in the city located mostly in the central business district and in the Lucap area. Hotel room rates range from P1,600 – P3,500.

Transient homes or budget homes is more like a house complete with air conditioned bed rooms, comfort rooms and kitchen and can accommodate at least 10 people. Rates range from P4,000-P5,000 or P300 per head for some.

Myrna Aquino, a resort owner said their rates are the same as others. “Walang pataasan, walang pababaan,”(No one charges higher price or lower price), she said.

Sison said based on their experience, the resorts and transient homes get fully booked during the peak season from January until summer. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
