P2-M allotted for Kalinga day celebration

by Peter A. Balocnit

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 6(PIA) -– The province allocated P2 million for the celebration of Kalinga Day and Ullalim festival.

Provincial Budget officer Alma Christine Copanut reported during the meeting of Kalinga Day committee chairmen the budget is similar with that of last year.

“Since there is no significant variation on the activities on this year’s Kalinga day, the province can spend the same amount,” she said asking the different committees to be prudent in spending so the use of the budget could be maximized.

Committee Chairmen submitted during the meeting their respective proposed activities and corresponding budgets. Bulk of the activities is on cultural shows with culinary contest and indigenous sports highlighting the competition.

The 501st Philippine Army Brigade will again sponsor the bike fest to be participated by bikers from Regions 1, 2 and CAR. Col. Paul Atal, Deputy Commanding Officer of the 501st Brigade said they are yet to determine the route.

Last year’s bikathon was from Tabuk to Lubuagan and back to Tabuk. Col. Atal said they are considering the Tabuk-Balbalan which he said is more thrilling than the past route.

Naty Sugguiyao, Cultural committee chair included water rafting, trekking and barangay immersion in the activities. Aside from the usual agro-industrial fair will be a skills show care of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Added feature is the float parade to be participated by all municipalities and this city with their beauties. After the float parade, municipal huts will be placed at the tourism ground to stay there permanently.

The Ullalim festival will be simultaneous with the conduct of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association meet which will be held from February 9-13 and Kalinga day on February 10-14. (PAB/PIA-CAR/Kalinga)
