by Jennifer Catan-Tilos

DUMAGUETE CITY, Jan. 7 (PIA) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) awarded Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network (ONCAN) recently for its contribution to the success of counterinsurgency project “Bayanihan”.

ONCAN president Baby Jambora received personally the plaque along with the twenty awardees during the AFP Bayanihan Awards Night held recently at the Armed Forces Commissioned Officers Club at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

Also honored were Jocelyn Limkaichong of the 1st District of Negros Oriental and Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto.

Jambora said the AFP has a long list of organizations and individuals as partners in its quest to win the peace for the Filipino people. However, she added the AFP chief Lt. Gen. Jessie Dellosa thanked all its partners for its contribution but had to pick only 20.

The AFP recognized ONCAN and Rep. Limkaichong for their invaluable support to the AFP in the implementation of the IPSP Bayanihan in the province of Negros Oriental.

Gen. Dellosa said ONCAN’s support for the Bayanihan utilizes its vast networking with other agencies enables the project achieved for the welfare of the poor and needy children not only in the urban areas of Dumaguete City, but also in the poor barangays province-wide.

With this, it helped address the problem of poverty and inadequate services, a unifying act that effectively address the basic and core issues as envisioned in the “whole of nation” approached espoused by IPSP Bayanihan, said Dellosa.

The nominees were recommended by the AFP major services, unified commands and wide service support and separate units. The shortlist of nominees was subjected to a screening process before the list of Bayanihan awardees was finalized. (PIA/JCT)
