Caritas Manila continues relief efforts for ‘Sendong’ victimsMANILA, Jan. 7 (PIA) -– Caritas Manila, lead Catholic agency for social services and development of the Archdiocese of Manila continues its relief efforts for the thousands of victims of tropical storm Sendong last December.
Caritas Manila executive director Fr. Anton Pascual said they are is still coordinating the support of various parishes in Metro Manila for the relief efforts of Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro and the Diocese of Iligan.
“We continue to call for help to all kind-hearted souls especially our Filipino brothers and sisters overseas,” said Fr. Pascual.
The cleric added that around P5 million was already raised for the victims of the typhoon through its “Caritas Damay Kapanalig.”
Caritas was able to give P1 million for relief operations in Cagayn de Oro and Iligan through the Church’s diocesan and parish networks especially in heavily affected areas.
Fr. Pascual also said that the rest of the amount, as well as additional donations that will be raised will be sent for rehabilitation efforts in the next few weeks and months.
He added the Church network of volunteers through Caritas Manila’s social services and development ministry were also sent to action to provide the necessary manpower for quick-response relief operations.
“Although relief operations may be over, more help is needed to start the healing process and rehabilitation,” Fr. Pascual said. (CBCP/RJB/JEG-PIA-NCR)
