SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union Jan. 7 (PIA) --Regional Dir. Marlene Febes Peralta of the Department of Social and Welfare and Development (DSWD) - Field Office 1 recently urged all qualified beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P) and Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran (SEA-K) program in Urbiztondo in Pangasinan to value the microenterprise that they will put-up for them in the town.
The project aims to sustain the SEA-K program objective, which is to enhance the socio-economic skills of poor families through the organization of community-based associations for entrepreneurial development and 4Ps strategy on poverty reduction.
This is anchored on the regional development plan, where the agency strengthens assistance for the poor to allow them to venture on livelihood opportunities for long-term purpose.
According to Iryn de los Reyes, information officer II of DSWD, Peralta and Urbiztondo Mayor Ernesto Balolong Jr. awarded 11 checks to these groups of SEA-K beneficiaries amounting P1,250,000 as capital assistance to help them start with the said small scale business or microenterprises projects.
The 160 4Ps beneficiaries in the town likewise received around P5,000-P10,000 cash capital assistance.
Among the identified enterprises that the beneficiaries could venture are Bilao Making, Sari-Sari Store, Junk Shop, Abaca Rope Making, Bamboo Furniture Making and frozen foods, vegetables and balot vending.
Balolong said to beneficiaries, “Before the 4Ps ends by 2013 in Set 1 areas, DSWD is paving the way to help further the poor families thru more livelihood opportunities.”
“Magsumikap tayo para tuloy-tuloy ang pangarap na maunlad na buhay. (Let us persevere to reach our aspirations for an improved quality of life.),” Balolong added. (JCR/MHH-PIA 1 La Union with reports from Iryn de los Reyes-DSWD 1)
