Another barangay food terminal project to rise in Ifugao townby Dan B. Codamon
LAMUT, Ifugao, Jan. 8(PIA) -- The Department of Agriculture in Caraga Administrative Region (DA-CAR) has approved funding for another barangay food terminal project (BFTP) in this municipality.
Approved in December last year, the BFTP has a project cost of P270,000 and will be constructed at Barangay Panopdopan, said municipal agriculturist Beda Pasay-an. This will make it accessible to distributors, farmers/producers and consumers from the other barangays like Jolowon, Lucban, Umilag and Magulon of this municipality and barangay Panubtuban in the town of Asipulo.
These barangays have 4,300 families engaged in farming producing rice, corn, banana, root crops, fruits, coffee, legumes and livestock like cattle, carabao, pigs, native poultry and ducks including backyard fishponds, which are flourishing.
The establishment of the food terminal will provide better opportunities for cheaper, safe and quality agricultural and food products and some basic needs.
It will also serve as the linkage and marketing outlet since the proposed area is very much strategically located and accessible to transportation and for suppliers/distributors of frozen food, NFA rice and agricultural supplies.
Pasay-an said the construction of the food terminal will complement the Municipal Food Terminal project inaugurated by DA Secretary Proceso Alcala at Barangay Mabatobato here last November 25, 2011.
Panopdopan Barangay Captain Gabriel Tuguinay bared that their Barangay Council will implement the project and will employ a manager and a saleslady with knowledge in bookkeeping and recording. DA-CAR and local government unit of Lamut will provide supervision, technical assistance and monitoring of the project.(JDP/DBC-PIA CAR,Ifugao)
