LTO-Kalinga collects P9.4-M revenue

by Peter A. Balocnit

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 9(PIA)-- The Land Transportation Office (LTO) this province collected total revenue of P9.4 million last year from registration of vehicles, licenses fees, and penalties.

According to Jenilyn Angog, Provincial LTO Officer, collection in 2011 increased by 1.3 percent or P1.2 million as compared to their collection of P8.2 million in 2010.

She said 60% of the collection came from vehicle registration fees, and 20% each from licenses and penalties from violations of traffic laws.

She said the amount collected will form part of the Motor Vehicle Users Charge (MVUC) which will be used for road improvements.

“Our collection should been higher but many vehicles and motors remain unregistered or are colorum,” Angog said adding that she is optimistic that their collection will increase this year with the strengthened campaign against colorum vehicles.

For such accomplishment, Angog acknowledged the support of the Philippine National Police (PNP) through deputized PNP agents and organic personnel from the Flying Squad and Traffic Management Group covering Kalinga.

“We recognize the contribution of the PNP in the implementation of LTO’s mandate. They should have been given reward and cash incentives however, the number of apprehensions to qualify for such award is not met,’ Angog said.

She said aside from traffic law enforcers from the Traffic Management Group and Flying Squads, LTO-Kalinga has 21 deputized PNP personnel. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
