Rotary Club conducts visual acuity testing to elem studes

by Oliver Baccay

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Dec. 9 (PIA) –- The Rotary Club-Rainbow, in coordination with Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and City Health Office (CHO), has conducted sight acuity testing to 94 elementary pupils of Cataggamman, Elementary School.

Club president and PIA regional director Purita S. Licas said of the 94 pupils who underwent the first batch of testing, 13 were initially examined with eye defects.

“But as to the specifications of the defects, an eye specialist who is also a member of the organization will determine the specific defects of the eye of each pupil and we will provide the correction glasses if it is needed,” Licas said.

The said non-government organization is also set to conduct the second batch of visual acuity testing in the same school next week to help the young children correct their eye defects as early as possible.

Licas stated the project is part of their social services to help the children and their families, especially those who cannot afford to consult eye physicians and to acquire glasses to correct their eye defects.

Other than this, the organization will also assist other schools in terms of other services that the club members can offer for free. In the previous years, the said organization had established dishwashing facilities, faucet, books and other facilities that the learners need.

Last year, the group had conducted medical mission in the Agta community at Penablanca, Cagayan and also at Bureau of Jail Management and Penology of this city. (TCB/OTB/PIA-2)
