So Leyte to embark on massive coconut replantingby Erna Sy-Gorne
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Jan 9 (PIA8) -- The provincial government of Southern Leyte will embark on a massive coconut tree replanting in the province this year.
More and more old trees are becoming unproductive; this, coupled with rampant and indiscriminate cutting of coconut trees into lumber had dwindled the number of coconut trees substantially, provincial agriculturist Marina Gador reported.
Gador disclosed that with the recent directive of Governor Damian G. Mercado, the provincial agriculture office will be buying nuts from municipalities that will be planted after three to four months when these are already planting materials.
Gador said that an initial 10,000 coconut trees will be replacing old coconut trees.(ESG-PIA SoLeyte)
