Statement from the Office of the Executive SecretaryStatement on the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene
I commend the Philippine National Police and the other government agencies involved in the preparations undertaken to ensure the peaceful conduct of the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
From the onset, the President has directed our security forces to be vigilant in the face of terror threats. The PNP, in particular, should be lauded for taking all the precautions necessary to secure the safety of the 3 million devotees who joined the procession that took the Black Nazarene through the streets of Manila to Quiapo Church.
Let the peaceful Black Nazarene procession yesterday reassure our people that its government will continue to take all threats to their security seriously and will take the steps necessary to address such threats to keep our citizens out of harmís way and ensure that Filipinos everywhere can continue to practice their faith as well as perform their everyday activities.
