Banaue officials implements 'no smoking policy' in schoolsby Mhars B Lihgawon
BANAUE, Ifugao, Jan. 10 (PIA) - - Local officials here implemented recently the “no smoking policy” in all schools in efforts to abate indiscriminate smoking in public buildings and places in the municipality.
Municipal mayor Jerry Dalipog has directed the schools administrators to fully implement the anti-smoking campaign in their respective school campuses.
The prohibition is in line with anti-smoking campaign of the municipality as contained in the ordinance crafted by the local legislators to protect the people from the harmful effects of tobacco products.
The ordinance states it would be unlawful for any person to smoke cigarettes or any items of the same effect inside any public buildings including private and public schools and places in the municipality. However, places designated as smoking areas adopted by the schools would be excluded in the implementation of the ordinance.
A fine of P100 would be charged against any violator but school policies would be applied for students and pupils.
Earlier, the local government unit has banned smoking in government offices including public utility passenger vehicles as long as passengers are on board. (JDP/MBL – PIA CAR,Ifugao)
