1st Philippine International Bioenergy Conference to boost investments in Ph

by Phres A. Evardone

QUEZON CITY, Jan. 10 (PIA) -- The 1st Philippine International Bioenergy Conference (PIBEC) is expected to boost investment opportunities in the field of bioenergy in the country as it will assemble various bioenergy players both locally and globally on January 12-13 at the Manila Hotel.

The invited speakers are local and international experts on bioenergy resources who will discuss the latest technological advances in bioenergy as well as the current challenges and opportunities in the industry.

The conference will also tackle the state of bioenergy industry in the country.

Moreover, the said conference will convene Local Government Units (LGUs) and local and international bioenergy players to establish partnerships in exploring bioenergy resources in the country and the possible investments opportunities that can be realized through these partnerships.

Judith Ann Mae M. Luna, Corporate Planning & Policy Officer of the Philippine Agricultural Development and Commercial Corporation (PADCC) said the conference will utilize business matching scheme to provide an avenue for LGUs and prospective investors to conduct talks on possible partnership in developing bioenergy resources in the country. Under this scheme, investors can access the country’s bioenergy market by choosing specific areas to invest in.

Representatives of non-government organization (NGOs), private sector and the academe will also take part in the event.

PIBEC is organized by the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Energy as part of its commitment in the implementation of the Biofuels Act of 2006 (RA 9367) and Renewable Energy Act of 2008 (RA 9513). This also serves as the country’s compliance to the Kyoto Protocol.

Luna was the guest in today’s episode of “Talking Points” a program sponsored by the Philippine Communication and Operations Office (PCOO) and Philippine Information agency (PIA). Talking Points is aired over Radyo ng Bayan nationwide. (ASB/PAE/PIA-GHQ)
