NCIP distributes financial assistance to 494 Ifugao students

by Vency D. Bulayungan

LAMUT, Ifugao,Jan 10 (PIA) -- The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) distributed recently checks to 494 grantees at the Ifugao State University here.

NCIP – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Sancho Buquing handed over the said checks amounting to P3,500.00 for each students. The said amount covers more than one half of their tuition fee as each student is entitled to P5,000.00 tuition fee per semester.

Out of the total 468 grantees in IFSU main campus, 357 were present to receive their checks. Also on hand to get their checks were 77 out of 114 scholars from IFSU-Lagawe campus and 60 from Alfonso Lista campus.

Buquing expressed hope that after four years, the life status of these scholars will improve for the better and they will be able to reach their dreams in life.

“I hope that one day, one of you will become a director like me,” he said adding that those who have boyfriends or girlfriends should use that relationship as an inspiration so it will not disrupt their studies.

Doreen Powell of NCIP here said that those who did not go personally to IFSU Lamut to receive their checks will go to their office in Lagawe to claim it.

Powell said that all the grantees thanked the government for the said assistance which is a big help to them especially so that they come from indigent families who cannot afford to send them to school. (JDP/VDB-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
