2 GK villages to undergo marketing trainings with DTI- So Leyte

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Jan. 10 (PIA) -- After undergoing food processing and simplified bookkeeping trainings, the two Gawad Kalinga (GK) villages will now go through marketing trainings to prepare them in their food processing industry.

Slated on January 19, 2012, the same groups will undergo marketing trainings such as labeling, packaging, among others marketing strategies to promote their cassava and gabi food processing, Sanda Alcober, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Trade and Industry Development Specialist reported.

Three months ago, the Lilo-an GK and Manlico GK villages both underwent food processing trainings with the Leyte State University (LSU), who shared the technology on how to best prepare the production of cassava and gabi processed foods, she said.

The DTI also earlier conducted a simplified record keeping trainings to equip the project beneficiaries on how to trace where the money go through the simplified forms, Alcober added.

She said that the simplified record keeping were conducted in two categories, namely for the 14 farmers, who undertake the planting process while the other group, the 23 housewives, who were involved in the food production as an enterprise.

While the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will also assist in the financial assistance thru the acquisition of equipments such as cassava crater, stainless tabiles, refrigerators and other utensils needed for the food production. On top of the orientation of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) which is being promoted by DOST , she added.

The cassava and gabi food processing shall be undertaken by the Lilo-an GK and Manlico GK housewives respectively, she said.(PIA SoLeyte/esg)
