DOT-1 sees new tourism campaign effective thru social networking sites

by Monette H. Herrera

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Jan 10 (PIA) -- The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 1 said in an interview yesterday that the new tourism campaign “It’s more fun in the Philippines” was effective as it gained positive feedbacks from social networking sites like facebook and twitter.

According to DOT-1 Senior Tourism Officer Evangeline Danat, this campaign aims to boost the tourism industry of the country at the same time promote our small medium enterprises.

Likewise, this is based on the Regional Development Plan wherein it is one of the strategies of DOT to intensify trade, industry and tourism development activities to seize the momentum of the sector’s advantage and opportunities in the external environment.

Danat said that the campaign slogan created an impact to foreigners coming in the region especially in San Juan, as the surfing capital of the north.

“It’s more fun in San Juan”, as attested by those tourists she said.

While on the other hand, Adamor Dagang, Information and Tourism Officer of the Provincial Government of La Union said that the campaign is very timely and very appropriate.

“Even us here in La Union, we've been saying "come and play in La Union". So, this new campaign is cool for me! At para sa mga nagsasabing hindi daw bago o hindi daw unique, dapat tumulong muna tayo na ikampanya ito bago batikusin(And to those who say it is not new or it is not unique, we should help first to promote it before criticizing.)," Dagang added.

Though it (campaign slogan) gets negative feedbacks, still, it continuously spread through the help of these sites.

The DOT also launched its new website: in order to push the campaign since this new slogan will brand the new Philippine tourism campaign to be rolled out in international markets starting April this year, according to reports. (ANL/MHH-PIA 1 La Union)
