DPWH observes transparency bidding in Ilocos Surby Ben P. Pacris
VIGAN CITY, Jan. 11 (PIA) -- In line with the campaign slogan of President Benigno Aquino 111 to fight graft and corruption in government, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has launched a competitive and transparent bidding of all projects in Ilocos Sur.
This was stressed recently by Engr. Andrelito Tagorda, district engineer, 1st Engineering District, DPWH, during a weekly “Kapihan iti Amianan” Media Forum which was shown on Iluko Heritage Channel.
“The DPWH observes transparency in the bidding process as one of the policy reforms of the agency under Sec. Rpgelio Singson,” Engr. Tagorda said.
The members of the Bids and Awards Committee included representatives from civic and religious organizations like our parish priest, the DPWH official said.
Quoting Secretary Rogelio Singson, he said that the greater transparency there is in the bidding process the more savings will be generated by government.
Tagorda also asked all contractors to comply with the required project billboards as he also urged people’s organizations to monitor the projects to determine if it is being implemented according to the contract.
The District Engineer explained that the billboard should state the name of the contractor, cost of the project, when the project started and expected completion, name of the consultant, the source of the fund and the implementing office.
This will exclude the names or pictures of personalities or politicians in the standard DPWH project billboard such as projects initiated by Congressmen and Senators from their Priority Development Assistance Funds, the DPWH official added. (ANL/BPP-PIA 1 Ilocos Sur)
