PIA Press Release Wednesday, January 11, 2012 DepEd holds 1st Regional Education Summit in EVby Marivic Alcober TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan. 11 (PIA) -- In support of the programs and projects of the Department of Education (DepEd), specifically on the implementation of the K to 12 Curriculum, the department in cooperation with its education stakeholders in Eastern Visayas will hold the 1st Regional Education Summit on January 20, 2012, at the RELC-NEAP Region VIII, DepEd Complex, Government Center, Candahug, Palo, Leyte The said summit which is centered on the theme: Strengthening Quality Basic Education via “K to 12”. During the Summit, DepEd Assistant Regional Director Alberto T. Escobarte will formally welcome the guests to be followed by the presentation of the participants by the Chief of the CLMD Dr. Rogelia K. Firmo. On her part, DepEd Regional Director Dr. Luisa Bautista-Yu will disseminate the state of education in region 8, its major programs and projects, national achievement plus test results. The K to 12 legislative reforms in education will be discussed by Congressman Mel Senen S. Sarmiento of the 1st District of Samar. Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla will share with the participants “ICOT” and “APEX” in the context of K to 12: the Leyte Experience, while the role of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Education & Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in K to 12 will be covered by CHED OIC Regional Director Dr. Libertad P. Garcia and TESDA Regional Director Juan M. Sabulao, Jr. respectively. The guest of honor, DepEd Undersecretary Yolanda S. Quijano will deliver the Keynote Address to be followed by Messages of Support from Palo Municipal Mayor Remedios L. Petilla, Regional Director Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu of the Philippine Information Agency, Director Pedro A. Noval, Jr. of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Regional PTA Federation President Mr. Zino V. Llarena, the Regional Coordinator of the Teachers Dignity Coalition Mr. Edilberto U. Sumapig, and lastly, Exec. Director Sonia C. Palami of the Eastern Visayas Association of Private Schools. At the culmination of the Summit, Dr. Yu will distribute the Certificates of Participation after which she will deliver the closing remarks. (PIA-8) |
