NEGROS OCC., January 12 (PIA) -- Twenty eight families from Sitio Baluc, Brgy. Malasibog, Escalante City were recently evacuated at Malasibog Elementary School and the Chapel of ‘Diyos Amahan’ after the area was hit by a landslide.
According to a report from the Provincial Social Welfare Office, the ground movements from the fissure occurred last January 10, Tuesday, around 3:50 p.m.
PSWD said aid were already dispatched to the evacuation centers as the scalante City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council continued to air warning to local residents living in the area.
According to reports, areas mentioned were declared by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau to be permanent danger zones as early as 2007 but residents opted to stay.
Provincial Social Welfare Officer Liane Garcia said the LGU is in need of assistance from the proper agencies to assess the current situation of the affected areas. (JCM/LOL/PIA6)
