Casimpan TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Jan 12 (PIA) -– Maasin City in Southern Leyte is now ready to host this year’s Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) to be held January 29 to February 3 at the Southern Leyte Provincial Sports Complex in the said city. Dr. Luisa Bautista-Yu, regional director of the Department of Education, Eastern Visayas said that the city government has not encountered problems except of course for weather. She said that the sports competition is fully supported by the city’s Mayor Maloney Samaco who is an avid sports enthusiast. The DepEd top official also disclosed that this year’s EVRAA will be participated by over 5,000 athletes, sports, and school officials from the 10 divisions of the region. Anchored on the theme, “School Sports: Foundation to a Healthy Lifestyle,” participants will be competing in 17 games to be held in the Provincial Sports Complex at Tomas Oppus Pilot School (TOPS) in Maasin. Yu is encouraging the people of the region to support the athletes and for the competitors to give their best as winning in the regional competition would be their ticket to inclusion in the Palarong Pambansa and other national sports competition. The EVRAA is a competition of the best athletes in the elementary and secondary divisions. To date, Maasin City is finalizing the sports venues, accommodation of athletes, officials, and lay out of physical facilities..
