Philhealth increases annual premium contributions of membersby Peter A. Balocnit
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 11(PIA)-- Annual premium contributions of both sponsored and individually paying members to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or Philhealth increased effective this year.
According to Jean Baawa of Philhealth Kalinga Field Office, the increase in annual premium contributions aims to support the attainment of universal health care and the millennium development goals by 2015.
“Increasing the annual premium contributions helps in the implementation of the Kalusugan Pangkalahatan Program of President Aquino which will offer members and qualified dependents the option to avail of no balance billing health care services,” she said.
She said the Philhealth Board through Resolution No. 1571, series of 2011 approved the increase in annual premium contribution to have all Filipinos assigned and taken care by a primary health provider with enhanced benefit packages under the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP).
The premium contribution of all National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) identified poor families of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under the sponsored program shall be P2,400.00 per year effective January 1, 2012.
“The sponsored program identification card that will be issued to the intended NHTS-PR beneficiaries shall have a two-year validity period,” Baawa said adding this is with the expectation for the national government to sustain its subsidy until calendar year 2013.
The same is true with the partial subsidy scheme and individually paying and overseas workers program to increase to P2,400.00 effective July 1 this year. “But for self-employed professionals earning an average monthly income of more than P25,000.00, they shall continue to pay P3,600.00 per year,” Baawa said.
Contribution of employees from the formal sector and their employers is computed at 3% of the basic monthly salary of the employee effective January 1 of 2013. “All case rate packages may be availed by all NHIP members provided they comply with the requirements for benefit availment,” Baawa said.
