PIA Press Release Thursday, January 12, 2012 DLSU-D ICTC Director lectures on internet harassment, cyber bullyingDASMARIÑAS, Cavite, January 12 (PIA) -- De La Salle University-Dasmariñas Information and Communications Technology Center (ICTC) Director Juvenal Bautista was recently invited by the Student Wellness Office to be the resource speaker for a seminar on the responsible use of the internet, entitled "IMBA ka ba?" where he shared tips on responding to internet harassment and cyber bullying as well as avoiding becoming a victim of bullying online. Among the tips he shared to prevent internet harassment include the use of a gender neutral e-mail address or username, creating a strong password account; changing of passwords frequently; reviewing one's email signature, the use of encryption, watching out for red flags or suspicious content or people; being cautious about online acquaintances; using an anonymous browser to browse the web; discussing safety and privacy with ISPs; and making sure ISPs have acceptable use policy where no harassment is permitted and discussing internet privacy and safety with the organization's internet technology specialists. Bautista also reiterated common ways to maintain one's safety online such as not telling anyone one's password; not sharing personal information through email, even to a trusted individual; not sharing personal information in public spaces, chartrooms or social networks; not leaving one's computer logged on and unattended; not using out of office facilities in one's email and not advertising that one will be on vacation or work related travel. Bautista also warned that it would be prudent not to attack anyone while participating in discussion groups to veer away from the impression that one is being a bully or harasser in a forum or group discussion.
